So bored of “social commentary” on Tumblr that’s totally US-centric
Some issues are specific to the US. Just as some issues are specific to other places. I think talking about them all is important.
I didn’t say it wasn’t. I said I was fed up of US-centricity. As in, the commonly accepted pretense that US-centric analysis is universal when it’s clearly not, not even across Western countries. Everytime I complain about this someone points out that there are specific issues blah blah as if I don’t know that. Of course I do. I’ve been forced to read about them since I was old enough to read. What am I asking is that people respect that American experiences are not universal. The US is overrepresented on the Internet, and, well, everywhere so y’all only ever consider each other and yourselves, and to be honest it’s really frustrating and boring sometimes, especially when someone points out that, say, some race/size/gender/class issues have different nuances, and Americans all go “oh right, anyway back to the specific ways WE manifest oppressions”.
